Within a valley, just outside Hermanus, stretches more than 20 kilometres of wine farms, creating a Wine Route along the R320. The Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, true to its name, is Heaven-and-Earth. The temperate climate, paired with fertile soils, produces accoladed wines that achieve international awards. The Valley and Ridge have more than 15 wine farms, each with a unique story and offering its own experience. There are a number of wine shuttle providers that offer tours from farm to farm, to enjoy tastings without the worries of a designated driver.

At the start of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, you’ll find the Hemel-en-Aarde Village, with an incredible Wine Village shop that procures an excellent selection of local and international wines. Across from this Village is the Hemel-en-Aarde Estate with prestigious homes and wonderful facilities including a large pool, scenic footpaths shaded by trees, a clubhouse, tennis and squash courts, a gym and a putting green.

This is a utopic world, flourishing with indigenous flora and green vineyards, streams, as well as magnificent mountains and hills to take it all in from. The wine farms and their restaurants also offer extraordinary views to accompany fine dining experiences. 

There is also a farm-style restaurant, the “Plaaskombuis” that offers great old-fashioned substantial meals as well as delis that supply amazing charcuterie treats. Hiking and mountain biking trails meander through the valley, as well as quad biking and ziplining with Hermanus Forest Adventures. The Hermanus Parkrun is hosted every Saturday in the valley, one of the most beautiful Parkruns in South Africa.
